Changing in Place Identity of Two Working-Class Neighbourhoods in Kladno since the mid-20th Century: Podprůhon & Nové Kladno

The thesis focuses on the place identity of two working-class neighbourhoods in Kladno since the mid-20th century. It describes the historical development of all neighbourhoods in Kladno, but it analyses Podprůhon and Nové Kladno as prototypical examples. Although the two are close to each other, they have developed differently: Nové Kladno was transformed into a housing estate; Pod- průhon was left to its natural, gradual development. An essential part is a qualitative and quantita- tive research. It studies the people's relationship to both localities, the first impression of them, and whether the conclusions differ according to the respondents' ages. It exploits interviews with resi- dents and questionnaire survey with non-residents. The results are put in context with plans and artistic works, allowing for a detailed description of the identity of both localities. Nové Kladno has lost its identity due to its transformation and has not yet built a new one, while Podprůhon has re- tained its identity despite becoming an excluded locality in the 1980s. As there are many neigh- bourhoods with similar developments in Czechia since the mid-20th century, the interpretations from this thesis can be generalised as case studies of the industrial heritage transformations not only in Kladno. Transformations of Kladno in the Period of Industrialization and the Great Depression Key words: Kladno region, industrialization, The Great Depression, Poldi Hut, Kablo, railways, coal mines, historical geography, industrial landscape This bachelor thesis deals with the transformation of Kladno region since the second half of the 19th century to present. The main objective of this work is to evaluate the extent to which the Great Depression has affected the development of the mining and metallurgical center in Central Bohemia, the territory of Kladno region and society in this area. For this reason, much of the work is devoted to the development of the area from the second half of the 19th century to the economic crisis. The Kladno region has developed and expanded rapidly to the surrounding landscape, as it has become dominantly industrial due to social changes due to its originally agricultural area. The economic crisis manifested itself in the Kladno region in 1932. The settlements ceased to penetrate the surrounding landscape and support the families of the unemployed from urban budgets. Light pollution of the Kladno region

Light pollution is an environmental problem caused by overuse of artificial light at night. Light pollution mainly affects densely populated areas and industrial regions. In addition to night sky brightening, light pollution also causes discomfort and has negative health and environmental impacts. The literature review of this bachelor thesis deals with light, light pollution and the study area in three chapters. The aim of the practical part is examination of interaction of landscape and light pollution. On the basis of field measurements by the Sky Quality Meter in the surroundings of Kladno, the effect of forest on propagation of light pollution is assessed. The working hypothesis assumes the barrier effect of the forest. The hypothesis is not safely confirmed by the results, nevertheless the influence of Prague on night sky brightness has been shown. Molluscs of the Džbán Region (Central and Northern Bohemia; Czech Republic) and Their Use For a Local Indetification Guide

This diploma thesis deals with malacological research of selected forest localities in the natural park Džbán (Central Bohemia). The goal of this work is to molluscan explore composition in target area and compare results with the research of Dr. Vojen Ložek from years 1947-2010. His collections, which are deposited in the Repository of the National Museum in Prague - Horní Počernice, were processed in detail for this purpose. Obtained results enabled evaluation of changes in researched localities and the impact of such changes on composition of malacocenoses over the years. Standard malacological research was performed in selected localities of Džbán area. At 20 forest stations, we applied the method of soil samples, at 1 wetland locality we applied a method of wet washout. Collected material was further processed, determined and assessed. Altogether, 65 species of mollusc were found in selected area. Place called Cikánský dolík was chosen for the didactic part of this diploma thesis, which means a proposal for field trip of natural science. Such provided instruction is suitable for pupils from the 2nd level of basic schools. After adjustment, it can be used for younger pupils or older students. Reaction of the labour market of the city of Kladno to the industrial decline in the 90's of 20th century

This thesis aims to determine the impact of the decline of the major employers in the region Kladno on the local labour market. The work examines the development and causes of changes in unemployment in the region between years 1996 and 2014 and seeks to assess the extent to which historical burden of the region affects the current state of the labour market. For this purpose the thesis is divided into two parts. The first part, theoretical, is focused on the definition of unemployment and development of the Czech economy in economic transformation process with an emphasis on changes in employment structure. It also describes the history of the city of Kladno, Kladno's metallurgy and mining. The second part, practical, includes demographic analysis and the analysis of unemployment and labour market using data from the Czech Statistical Office, Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs, strategic documents of the city of Kladno and SWOT analysis. This thesis also includes interviews with experts from local institutions dealing with economic and social aspects of Kladno region, aiming to get the basic building blocks of the analysis and at the same time confirm the conclusions of this thesis.
